Club

The Eindhoven Chess Club (also known as ESV or simply Eindhoven) is a broad club that has something to offer everyone. On club nights, various competitions are played at different time controls. The club championship is played at classical time control over 25 rounds. In addition, we run an Active and a Rapid competition, organise training sessions, and close out the year with the battle for the Blitz Chess Championship.

Several teams compete in the KNSB and NBSB (Brabant) leagues. In the KNSB, the first team plays in the 2nd division and the second team in the 4th division. The third and fourth teams compete in the 5th division of the KNSB.

We pay special attention to new club players. Many people enjoy chess with friends or online, but joining a chess club often turns out to be quite a step. For this group we offer a dedicated programme with plenty of guidance. A separate competition is held for them, with experienced club players on hand to discuss games afterwards, and there is a dedicated training programme. The transition to the ‘regular’ competitions is prepared in consultation with the coordinator of this group.

For juniors there is a separate club night, also on Mondays — see the youth page for more information. Juniors who are strong enough are welcome to take part in the adult club competitions — an option that many take advantage of.
Over the years a fine collection of chess books has been made available in the library — nearly 400 books!
