Youth
For young chess players, the Eindhoven Chess Club has a junior section. The junior section is open to players of all levels, from beginners to top talents. We are very proud that in recent years our children have won a considerable number of national championships. But our beginner players receive plenty of attention too.
Our junior section meets on Monday evenings from 18:45 to 20:00. A junior evening consists of two parts: from 18:45 to 19:30 a lesson is given, and from 19:30 the games begin. Everyone is paired against an opponent of roughly the same level. If a game finishes quickly, children may play a second game. By 20:00 most games are over (if a game looks set to run very long, we add a chess clock). Results and standings from the competition are published on the website.
For lessons, children are divided into different groups. Teaching follows the Steps Method, though in the higher groups a game from the competition is often discussed as well. We are very pleased that the junior section is able to use the International School Eindhoven — it is an ideal learning environment.
Junior members learn a great deal by taking part in tournaments. The Eindhoven Cup is especially enjoyable for beginning players, but there are many other tournaments at all levels. We try to keep our junior members as well informed as possible about the range of junior chess tournaments on offer. We also always try to enter junior team matches as a club — many children enjoy playing in a team, and it strengthens the sense of togetherness among them.
Our chess club has grown enormously in recent years and we do everything we can to let everyone who wishes to join us play chess. Unfortunately, demand has been so high that we have had to introduce a waiting list. You can register for the waiting list by filling in the waiting list form (English: waiting list form).
Once a place becomes available, you will be invited to three free trial lessons. After that you can complete your registration via the enrolment form (There is also an English enrollment form.)
